Mesa Community College
Aug1997 - May 2015

Full-Time Residential Faculty

I taught mathematics for 29 years and have several areas in which I have gained a considerable amount of experience.  My main areas of focus are teaching current and future educators, hybrid/blended developmental math classes, along with using technology to teach both inside and outside the classroom. I have served on many textbook and curriculum committees, which has helped me to see the variety of materials available and compare which approaches work best for my students.  I have always loved technology, and I have a strong desire to learn new technologies that will help my students.  I now teach with the eInstruction Mobi and Interwrite Workspace software in all of my classes. I have been teaching myself Adobe CS4 (Flash, Fireworks and DreamWeaver) and have built over 50 animated Flash tutorials for my “Math For Elementary Teachers” course, along with two websites to house them (one for the actual course, and the other so any students and teachers can access the tutorials).  In the past two years I started creating online examples using a Livescribe Pulse Smart Pen, a Lumens document camera, the recording feature on the Interwrite Workspace software, and Camtasia Studio.  Creating tutorials for my students to use outside of class has become a strong area of interest and I have a great desire to further pursue designing, creating and implementing animated and video tutorials for all math courses.

Blue Mountain Community College
August 1992 - July 1997

Full-Time Residential Faculty

My areas of focus when I taught at BMCC were College Geometry, Brief/Business Calculus and the Algebra sequence. I started using the TI graphing calculators when they first came out and taught workshops for high school teachers in the area.

Northern Arizona University
June 1990 - Aug 1991

Graduate Assistant in Math Department

I taught 2 sections of Intermediate Algebra every semester as a graduate assistant, while earning my Master's degree in Secondary Mathematics Education.

Oak Creek Ranch School
August 1987 - May 1990

Department Chair, Full-Time Math Teacher

My responsibilities included being department chair, choosing all textbooks for courses being taught at the private high school, teaching 6-7 preps each day, counceling students, coaching girls' softball, and overseeing week-long field trips twice per year. When I got there I was told no student would ever make it above Beginning Algebra, but out of 100 students, I had more than half the school make it through Geometry and 2 students did extremely well in Calculus and went on to graduate from college and became engineers!
