\u00a0 She was very excited to try it out! \u00a0 \u00a0We talked about creating pages with just a single word on them with her voice. \u00a0 This would allow her son to &#8220;say&#8221; the word when he touched it on his iPad.\u00a0\u00a0 Her mind started buzzing with ideas on how to help her son.\u00a0\u00a0 She couldn&#8217;t wait to show his teachers the smartpen, in hopes it could help other children in his class as well.<\/p>\n<p>The next level of excitement for her came when I showed her the new Livescribe sound dots.\u00a0\u00a0 With these dots any sound can be recorded and then the dot can be placed onto any surface.\u00a0\u00a0 Her son has several picture books which the dots would be perfect for!\u00a0\u00a0 My niece also thought about recording herself reading every page of his favorite books, so he could &#8220;read&#8221; the book while she was doing her homework.\u00a0 It would give her son more freedom, but he could still hear her voice!<\/p>\n<p>I sat down that evening and ordered her a Livescribe pen, several sizes of paper and some sticky notes (to use until the sound dots are released).\u00a0\u00a0 She is going to allow me to track his progress using the smartpen and report from my blog on it.\u00a0\u00a0 My niece will be sending me updates on how he is improving at school and how she is using the pen with him.\u00a0\u00a0 I am so excited for her, but especially for her amazing son, who just happens to be Autistic\u00a0\u00a0 : )<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"evernoteSiteMemory\"><a href=\"javascript:\" onclick=\"Evernote.doClip({title: 'Help For My Autistic Great-Nephew',url: 'https:\/\/www.tech4mathed.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/10\/help-for-my-autistic-great-nephew\/',contentID: 'post-1468',suggestTags: 'AssistiveTech,autism,fablevision,iPad,livescribe,pencasts,Peter H.
